I have a few quick questions. Next week is Tech Week for my school's musical (which I am in, guy lead; yay me!) and every night there is a meal. The meals cooked are by people who volunteer to use their own money and sources. I know that half of the meals are not going to be healthy, but I don't want to be rude and turn down the food, when these kind people made it just for us? What do I do???

Small portions, like maybe a couple of bites of things that look good to you, have a healthy snack before you go, drink lots of water. I used to get so much anxiety about not knowing what was going to be on the menu, but now I just do the best I can. If all else, you go home hungry, then you have something that fits into your meal plan. Have a great time!

Congratulations. That is an exciting opportunity to be in the show!. You can eat beforehand, then eat what is available that you can eat, make an exception for one night but not go wild, or tell them that you have food limitations and eat what you can have. There is no one right answer. If this is a one night thing, mildly indulge and don't sweat it. Unless you think it will put you in an eating binge. I, personally, have found that by not making a big deal out of food, I don't stress eat. I lost 55 lbs this way so far. The thing is, to go forward, and live a nice, healthy life, you don't need a perfect plan, you just need a plan that doesn't totally sabotage your efforts.

Also, bring your own snacks that you can eat, and eat what you believe are healthy off the food table. Look for the whole foods, which tend to be healthier. I am faced with this problem frequently, as I am allergic to many foods, so many things that people make/bring may have things I'm allergic to. People will understand if you say you are on a rather strict diet.

Well I tell people in the nursing center when they offer special things they have made and want me to try it that I appreciate the sweet gesture but Im on a special diet and I have a reactions to certain foods ...Well its not a lie either my reactions are I begin to gain back weight..it works too...no one wants you to have a reaction to a food lol:)

Depending on the time for the get-together, have a small snack to keep you going. Check out all the food like a buffet and then pick and choose. Being rude would be telling the people that their food sucks. Being polite would be saying thank you but I have dietary restrictions and leave it at that. Nothing about diet, etc. No ones business but you and yourself.....

If you dont feel comfortable eating it, just take small portions or a few bites. Tell them how wonderful it was, but that you are trying to slim down but wanted to make sure you tried it. Most people will understand. Good luck in the musical!!

You do not have to eat everything on your plate. Take small portion controlled bites and leave the rest. People may urge food on you, let them put it on your plate. Just don’t eat it. 9 times out of 10 they don’t notice. If you don’t like temptation on your plate you can say you have food sensitivites. You do. You are sensitive to foods that do not fit into your healthy eating plan. But you are not obligated to explain anything. But if you feel compelled you can also use the “stage jitters” excuse... “ I am just having a little stage jitters right now..”. Or “left over stage jitters” ... managing your weight is taking control... not just controlling portions or your cravings but controlling situations and not afraid of being in control of how you handle people who may unknowingly (or otherwise) be pushing food on you. Everyone has great suggestions... use one or all of them. You are the boss.

If there is salad or veggies, i load up on them. Try for half your plate. Then i go for whatever entrees, about 1/4 of plate. Then everything else on last 1/4 plate -- rice, potatoes, bread, beans, sauces, etc. I skip any cookies, etc. Congratulations on being in the play! Break a leg!
