Well, someone might know the science, but you know your body and it's happening consistently so that is something that you know now.

I have a similar reaction (plus a couple others) with anything heavy in carbs/sugar regardless of the amount in cals consumed. I intemperate that as me bod saying that it doesn't like the stuff no matter how much my mind does or has to shift gears in order to process it. I'm sure there is some sciencey stuff behind the reaction but I have not delved deep enough into that side. Suffice it today, when I do step off script its usually not with anything with a heavy carb/sugar load and on the very rare occasion that I do, its with the foreknowledge I'm going to pay the price the next day in how I feel.

I have found that if I eat an excess of carbs, sweets, breads, I am more tired and sluggish the next day. I think its because your brain is reverting back to burning the carbs and not the fats which makes you feel sluggish and makes cravings happen. For me, I just dont do cheats anymore, at first I did because it was so hard, but after a while, I found I didnt need it and it made the cravings harder to overcome. Once I stopped, I dont crave anymore. You will find what works for you and CRUSH IT!!

If it's real for you, then it's a real thing. I try to listen to my body very carefully and eat accordingly. Chocolate or anything sugary sends me through the roof.

Carbs depress me the next morning.

Read up on a thing called "Keto Flu." If you're doing low carb, adding any significant amount of carbs in will make you feel really crummy. I read a blog post from a lady on serious keto who said anytime she eats carbs she feels absolutely horrible the next day. Her recommendation is to restrict cheat days to very special occasions and then make sure the carbs you are eating will be worth feeling bad the next day. That being said, there are tons of yummy low carb snacks and desserts out there. Pinterest has been a life-saver! Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

A friendly alternative suggestion is to consider or be sure it's not a blood sugar related issue, where the high carbs are having an adverse reaction within your body; please consider the possibility it's a high glycemic food item that may raise your glucose or blood sugar beyond your body's normal ranges; your symptoms could be a result of that.

Sugar is toxic, there's no such thing as a little cheating if you want to detox your body from sugar you have to stop eating sugar

I don’t do keto, and have practiced the same WOE for years, but if I eat a meal that is in that junk food category, or fast food, or meat heavy with grease, I feel horrible for several days like I’ve been hit by a train.

Cheats will derail you on Keto. If you crave a sweet treat, then try DietDoctor.com or RuledMe.com for some low carb treats that you can have. Hard to believe, but Chocolate Mousse and whipped cream (sweetened with no calorie sweetener) are keto friendly and won't derail you.

I know that people react differently, but if I eat something that is high in refined carbs and/or sugar, or even something that is predominantly carbs and I don't balance it with protein or fats, I suffer. First, if I do it during the day, I "crash" about an hour or two later--get very sleepy and lethargic. Second, especially if I do it in the evening, I feel bloated and miserable for most of the next day. Ugh. So, when I want a treat that I know I really shouldn't eat but have decided to eat anyway, I do two things that work well for me. First, I limit the quantity severely. Second, I balance that refined carb with healthy fats--so I might have some coffee with heavy cream and MCT oil in it with my 1/4 cookie. Or, some homemade ice cream made with healthy fats and no added sugars. I also have been doing some intermittent fasting, and I've noticed that my body is much happier if I come off a 24 or 36 hour fast gently--by eating things that are easy for my body to digest and which don't spike a strong insulin response or tax my digestive system too much. It might be possible that your body is reacting to switching fuel sources--going from ketones to glucose so quickly. For me, part of that is because I'm insulin resistant, but I don't know how that might relate to you. Another thought for you--I have discovered that I am sensitive to gluten, so I no longer eat anything with flour in it. If you have been eating fewer refined foods on your ketogenic diet, your body may have gotten used to not having those things and if you are sensitive to some ingredient in the food, you might be getting a stronger reaction from even a small amount of the food. I have found that to be true for me. If I accidentally get some gluten, I feel bloated and bleh for a day or two. As I said, people react differently to similar things, but I thought that sharing my experience might give you some things to consider as a starting point in figuring out what is happening for you. Good luck!

Thanks for asking the question. I have noticed that the refined sugar has a big impact on how I feel. I am not on a Keto diet but a Reduced carb and low sugar (newly gifted with Diabetes) so it may not be the same for you. I have removed most refined sugar from my diet and depending on your metabolism - it can effect you with the blood glucose spike. I read the labels on everything I might eat and evaluate the carbs and sugar before I consume it. There are lots of great people on here that are very experienced in this so I am sure you will get some insight. I wish you all the best on your adventure.

calories don’t matter as much as what kind of food you are eating. if you had to pick between a banana with more calories than a banana nut muffin or something with LESS calories. at that point the calories count doesn’t matter because the muffin has sugar a chemicals and gross stuff. if u want to cheat a little on your diet i would make some keto brownies there are dozens of GREAT recipes online

No, I feel the same right after. I just get dizzy and tired. Like instead of a come up, you come down with some heavy tired stuff

I read that some ppl get keto “Flu” don’t know if it’s from eating something sweet after switching your body over to burning fat for fuel, could be your system is not liking the adjustment to high carbs, after being low carb. I know I got sick, as a dog when I had ate Girl Scout cookies, I know they were not bad, or spoiled, because I had three thin mints and three snickerdoodles, or whatever they call them. I had this feeling like a rock, in my stomach, and I did not want to eat anything, even when my appetite returned, I was still sicky feeling. So now, I know I can’t jolt my system like that. And I am fine with that

You might want to get a blood sugar monitor. Believe it or not, the Reli-On kit from Walmart has a fairly high accuracy rating. A rise followed by a dip in blood sugar may be causing your fatigue brought on by consuming sugar and simple carbohydrates.

It's probably a combination of Sugars and Tryptophan, Chocolate is rich in Tryptophan: "Tryptophan has been shown to have direct effects on sleep, producing an increase in rated subjective sleepiness, and decrease in total wakefulness [83,84]. This improved quality of sleep is associated with an improvement in hedonic and cognitive measures [79], improved morning alertness and brain measures of attention [85]." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4728667/ Recent research on the behavioral effects of tryptophan and carbohydrate. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6400041

Why would you do keto, and eat sugar? They aren't compatible. Or the same thing. If you want to do 'low calorie' or 'low carb' I understand, but keto means to eat low car enough to be in a state of ketosis. Which you aren't going to be if you cheat and eat sugar.

Seems like it's pretty obvious that you are sabotaging yourself and you already know it, so not sure what you are asking.
