good morning, i have a question to throw out. may 24th will make 2 months on FS. ive been following a keto diet low cal. now i have given myself like 2 cheats per week. everytime i eat something chocolatey or like a piece of cake, i wake up the next morning with this tired lazy feeling. it isnt like i would eat over 100 cal . for instance, last week i had half of a hostess chocolate cup cake. i woke like soo tired. the same thing happenex yesterday morning, i had one chocolate chip cookie, freshly baked. i was soooo exhausted yesterday.. is there something to this ? im just really curious.. its odd.. any thoughts..

From my understanding of keto it can take 4 days to get into ketosis, so if you ate cheating twice a week then you are cheating yourself right out of ketosis. One cheat meal is the max and you will feel awful afterward.

Once you cleanse your system of carbohydrates including sugar, potatoes, pasta, root vegetables, baked goods, soda, juice, etc. It relieves your body of the burden of processing these foods. Your body is not designed to process these types of carbohydrates in the quantities that we consume them. This is why, when you go back to eating even a small amount, you feel sick. I’ve done it several times and every single time I end up with stomach/intestinal distress. I’m not gluten sensitive. I don’t suffer Celiac’s. It’s as simple as SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOU. Like any DRUG, it takes time to kick the habit. Be diligent. You can do it with time.

poison 1vy, it's good to ask questions, especially if this is something new to you. You can't be expected to know everything about a particular woe right from the start. Some comments on here were unnecessary. I'm not doing Keto, but I am doing a somewhat low carb diet. If I eat something my body hasn't had in awhile, pasta or bread, for instance, I feel like crap. Just eliminate those foods and seek keto alternatives. Like someone else mentioned, Pinterest is the bomb for keto recipes!!😁

I do notice that if I have a sugary cheat the next day I have headache & swelling in my fingers. So I try to stay away from sugar as much as possible.

A good idea is bone broth the next day. Maybe in place of breakfast.

Cheat days are bad for keto. You need to get the carbs out of your diet as much as possible for the most part. You're going to get and need some, but the best part of keto is not having the cravings all the time and not being hungry and as long as you have cheat days you aren't going to get that benefit.

thank you all again for the feed back. still being somewhat new, its a learning process. i asked the wrong people about "cheats" and he said something about keeping it under 20 cal. so i laughed and said thats a bite. he said exactly.. so it was literally a bite.. but not anymore.. the way my body reacted was sik, but at the same time threw my ass back on track.. didnt gain anything. soo i'm just gonna keep on track. thanks everyone.. yes EVERYONE.. 😉

My understanding from the info on MSN Health that anything above 50 grams carbs a day can throw you off keto. Then it takes a few days to get back into it. Probably depends on the individual. I had one day of carbs over 50. Between the "yuck" feeling and the guilt I did feel bad. Next time I will throw the bun away and skip the ice cream sandwich, which was about all I ate that day. Good luck on finding what works for you!
