I can't seem to stay on Keto for more than a couple months, even though I know it works so well for me. I love the food, lose the weight, maintain, and then start slowly adding the tortilla chips and jelly beans and other favorites back in until I'm back to being a carb queen, and my weight goes right back up again. At least I have the sense to get back on it before I put too much back on. So.... here I am again. 11 pounds to shed this time, then going to try to find some kind of a more do-able maintenance plan. Any of you allow a full blown cheat day every week or two? Does that wreck ketosis? Maybe if I knew I could give in to my cravings on certain days, I could stick with it more. I just can't imagine a life with NO tortilla chips, EVER!...that's not a life worth living IMHO. LOL!!

I am having success in maintenance with a combo of keto diet and intermittent fasting. Something about sticking to an eating window helps me to get back on track easily. A couple of days a week I eat whatever during the eating window, and then find it easier to do strict keto the next few days. So some days I will be flexible and have the french fried at five guys, or a slice of birthday cake, and than the next 3 days I am back on keto only until the scale comes back around.

You all are wonderful, thank you! But Terrapin def wins! LOL! Gotta keep our sense of humor, right! I do love LCHF and have no problem living this WOE... MOST of the time. I know I have to find what works for ME. Right now, I am back on it hard, getting back to being fat adapted. Then, a meal cheat every other week or so wont kill me, and will definitely keep me happy and sane. I have just recently retired and will have some extra time on my hands, so I think I'll start research on creating a wonderful chip substitute! :)

Check out DH Keifer's Carb nite solution. It's very low carb for 6 days and once a week you have a carb nite with whatever you want. His information is on Body.io . Ive been following it for years and I love it.

Have a full blown cheat and then follow it with a 24 hour fast. What I've found out with my clients is that if they can keep it clean from monday through friday knowing that they get to act like an ass on Saturday then they are more apt to comply. If they blow it during the week, then no cheat day. After a while the cheat days turn into cheat meals because they start liking the results that they are seeing. I hope that helps. Dr. Ferguson

Lisa... thanks tons! I had heard of this concept but couldn't remember the name. I just checked it out. It sounds perfect! Living my keto life as I so enjoy, but getting my cheat meal once a week. it will be good to read his whole book to make sure I don't mess myself up. Thanks again!

well i'm in same position here, normally try to keep a 5 pound rule, then back on diet, so haven't been weighing myself this xmass break, was going to go thru new years, but i weighed this morning and gained 11.5 what the hell been eating terrible cake, chips, pizza, candy, all the treats from xmass, Back to keto diet this morning, going to try to keep the cheat days to once every 2 weeks.

For me - I just make a plan and eat what works in my WOE. I think the "Cheat Day" just sets me up for failure. If I just eat what I like (right serving size, portion, nutrition makeup etc) then I don't need to cheat. And for those foods that don't work I try and find a suitable substitute that fills the bill. there are tons of Keto alternates to most foods. I wish you all the best on your adventure.

I agree with Tahoebrun. I notice that when I don't get "spastik" over "what I ate", I handle my meal plans better and I don't crave as much

I love keto how I feel on it, but holidays and other celebrations come up. Enjoy it then go back to your keto way of life immediately after.
