Something that has been on my mind lately that most probably don't think about. Food weight. I recently as in this month started eating a lot more light non fat Greek yogurt. A serving is usually 350 grams. That only adds up to 200 calories but on the scale that is about 3/4 of a pound. Before bed I've been having over a pound of it lately. I am the same body weight that I was at the beginning of the month yet look leaner. I really think the Greek yogurt is making up for the fat loss on the scale. I used to eat a protein bar or 2 before bed. Even two only weigh maybe 80 grams. Huge difference. Has anyone else started eating something that may have caused a bump in weight? You ever wake up the next day after a binge lighter than the day before? It could be that the pop tarts, candy, and cereal were all a lot less food weight than you usually have. Fruit and Greek yogurt for example would be much heavier. Just a random thought before bed. Good night.

Actually, that makes sense. I haven’t really thought of it that way. That’s interesting.

There was a scandal on an early season of the biggest loser. I can't remember why, but one team wanted to throw the week's team weigh in (probably bc they wanted to vote someone out). They all drank a bunch of water before wi and they lost the weigh in w/o compromising their weight loss. Smart and diabolical. Like you, d!

I wonder if it would make a difference having it in the morning. I don’t have a food scale. I thought about getting one, but Court and Keytenn got me in to portion control. But the weight of food is interesting. Maybe I will get one.

Interesting thought. I've been having ~1 pound of broccoli per day for the past few weeks. Weight has been +/- 1lb in September but look leaner in the mirror. Not sure if it's directly related, but interesting nonetheless.

Not sure if I'm seeing this right, but 100g of Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt would have 82+ grams of water. I'm sure those protein bars are much less % water.

https://www.nutritionvalue.org/Yogurt%2C_CHOBANI%2C_vanilla%2C_nonfat%2C_Greek_nutritional_value.html The only 2 protein bars are 9 & 12% water content..

It’s not what food weighs it’s how it is converted in the body. Low fat high carb foods are converted to fat by insulin and stored in your body which increases weight. High fat low carb foods don’t cause an insulin spike so the fat is used as energy or stored after being processed which the processing burns energy.

I think about this often. Popcorn is light but not when combined with wine 😂

Diablo, if you ate a pound of yogurt, then immediately got on the scale, you would be a pound heavier, just as if you were holding that pound of yogurt in your hand. Eating a pound of yogurt an bedtime, then weighing the next morning is much more complex. Obviously, we excrete food through our digestive system, but we also excrete some through our pores and our breath. The other thing is that if you are consistent in eating a pound of food at bedtime, then that consistency would cancel out any effect on weight loss over time.

Tony, you're wrong. If that were true I'd be the fattest FS member. So yeah, you're wrong. Bow down to the almighty CICO or get off my journal, lol!

Shirfleur, yes that's my point. I wasn't having so much Greek yogurt before especially not before bed and that is when I noticed the gain. JC, I have it before bed because casein protein is supposed to digest slower and help with muscle gain eaten before bed since we go a long time without food.

Thanks, CB, I think that was the answer I needed. I always drop 2-3.2 pounds of water during sleep and I think I am closer to 3 more consistently now that I have the yogurt before bed. Still something to think about when you experience day to day fluctuations, especially when your sodium and carbs are way different than the day before.

Keyten, thanks for all that info! I'll keep eating it, trust me.

Without trying to sound gross here...or offer TMI... I went almost 5 days without a bowel movement. On Friday and Saturday of last week I ate outside of my normal foods and was above my RDI. Even worse, my sodium level was super high and my fiber count super low. Although I had a good week of activities, I woke up Sunday morning with a 1.5lb gain. Monday I weighed in with that 1.5 gone and then some. This was after 2 eliminations and obvious water loss.

Struggle is so extra real when you’re on cough syrup with codeine. It’s like you think you did something worth it after sitting forever... rabbit turds or mini tootsie rolls🤦🏻‍♀️😂

So I hear, I don’t do that, my stuff is rainbows and glitter 😉😂😂 JK.

Oh yeah, codeine is a real shit stopper LOL
