Day 21 of Insanity. I think I'll be happy when I get past the halfway mark. Good workout, though, for sure. I'm definitely seeing more definition in my upper back and shoulders now...nice to see my spine, too :) The legs, though! I mean, they ARE getting better and it's always my trouble spot, even when "thin", but Lord! I've never worked out like this before. There's probably someone out there thinking...Ahhh, that ain't NOTHIN'! (let me at 'em!)

Well, although I'm with klannoye and on a scale strike, I did jump on for just a second this morning and the weight is the same. Or close...136.2. Maybe a drop if I can just get a lower calorie day in...but then again...I'm supposed to start trusting my body. So if it's saying, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? I'M REALLY HUNGRY! ... then I ought to listen. Try that for a week or two and see what happens. I read someone's post last night ...can't remember how I found it even... or who's post it was, but she claimed to keep adding calories when her weight loss stalled and was up to 1600 or so? Maybe it was 1700 and started losing again. What surprised me was she was really light, like 120 or something? (probably young, too, so that helps! ah...youth! SO wasted on the young!) But it did get me thinking again about maybe the body actually DOES know what it needs and to feed that hunger. And maybe it's a temporary thing while still in the beginning stages of this workout, and I'd have to drop back down again. Well...that would require a LOT of trust. Do I dare?? :) We'll see. I know I'm eating more than I have for a while and no drop yet! STILL feel I'm paying for that pig-out day.

Well, anyway, today was Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs, two separate workouts that come in just under an hour (assuming you like to breath between the two). I don't think I'll do another workout today. Burned about 400 calories.

Maybe that's the idea of 5 small meals a day that some pundits advocate? It fools the body into thinking it's getting more food than it really is, as opposed to going into starvation, hang onto every last calorie mode when we skip meals? I noted an unexpected drop when that packet of digestive biscuits ambushed me last week. However 1700 seems an awful lot to loose on.

Hi RWL, I missed your journal yesterday, so wish your daughter a belated Happy Birthday for me. I have been reading your last 2 days journals and Ruby's comments. It's funny, but sometimes when I eat a bit too much and expect to see a gain, WHOA, I had a loss. Weird. It has something to do with metabolism I think. The 5 or 6 small meals I believe is to keep the metabolism up and burning. When we eat too little, the metabolism drops (going back to cave man days when the body needed to reserve calories for leaner times). I read a big article on this about a month ago. Obviously too many calories and we gain, but to few, we don't necessarily lose. (Of course long illness with lack of food, we do lose - different situation). Out bodies need the stimulation of calories to keep a good metabolism going, high energy going, and thus, we lose weight. The average woman with a medium active life could probably eat 2000 calories and maintain her weight. Of course the more sedentary we are, the less we would require. BTW, thanks for stopping in today and I intend to give a brace on my knee a try. It's arthritis, but I HAVE to keep moving it or it would get worse with time. Have a great night and talk to you tomorrow.

Yeah, Ruby, it does seem like a LOT of calories to be able to lose weight on. I'm trying really hard to burn close to 2500 calories (not close enough) and doing "the math" I would technically be able to lose a little over a pound a week...but I don't think it would happen! So...the question remains....just what ARE digestive biscuits? :)

Hi NN! I completely agree with the stoking the fires (metabolism) and eating frequently. The body IS weird, though, isn't it? Eat CAKE and lose :) (the cake reference was for klannoye :). And how sweet of you to wish my daughter a happy birthday! I'll let her know the next time she graces me with her presence (taking advantage of this "adult" thing!) I, too, wonder if mine is arthritis or developing into arthritis. Oh well, gotta keep moving, right? Thanks!

RWL, well, I ordered SLim in 6 for myself and it should be here in the next few days!!! Will see how it is when it gets here! I am trying to get my sis to loan me her Jillian Michaels DVD!! I think it is 30 day shred!!

Digestive biscuits are apparently analogous to Graham crackers, except they're round. Most Cheesecake recipes use them - with loads of butter - to make the base. I've just added a wikipedia link into my 14th August entry. It shows a milk chocolate covered digestive: these are to die for, which is why I never buy them, just the plain.

Oh, Klannoye!! I DID eat the cake. AND...I LOST 6 1/2 lbs!!!! :) Can you BELIEVE it??!!! No? Really? You're not buying that one? Oh well...okay. You know what? It was delicious. Seriously. I think it's my new favorite dirty little food secret. Or should I say, food-like substance secret? :)

Ctlss :) I sure hope you're going to like it. I think it's a really good workout series. Something about it really makes you feel like you're elongating your muscles, as silly as that sounds. But you almost feel yourself getting longer and leaner. I'm missing it, too wiped out recently to do that along with Insanity, but maybe tomorrow. Today was pure cardio AND cardio abs and I just didn't have anything left in me that still wanted to work out! :) But I shopped ...and found a pair of jeans (thrift store...I'm still not finished and don't want to put a lot of money in clothes) that fit great and are a size....SEVEN! Oh my goodness! And no real muffin top, either. So I'm excited. And I'll try to think about that tomorrow when I work out and maybe I'll be pumped up enough to get back to Debbie's workout. Jillian's 30 Day Shred is awesome. I think it's a lot tougher than the Slim in 6, but then again, the 30 Day Shred was the one I started with, so was really out of shape and hadn't exercised in a long time. A long time! If she'll let your borrow it or burn a back up copy for herself and let you use it (never a bad idea with dvds, anyway) let me know how it goes. It would be interesting to see how someone else compares the two workouts.

Ruby, I've got to go check your journal entry for the picture. I love that you do that! Oh man, I LOVE fudge covered graham crackers, too. Something about that combination...killer. Wonder where the name "digestive" comes from? :) Thanks for clearing up my confusion. Well, on THAT matter, anyway. I seem to spend a lot of time confused lately. That's what happens when your kids are smarter than you are! Oh yay...classes start tomorrow here :)

Uh, RWL a SIZE SEVEN??? Are you flippin' serious!! That is amazing. I cannot wait until I am a size 10!! As for the exercise, I ahven't exercised in a long time either, like never before!!! Seriously, I have never done any kind of exercising. So this should be interesting. I am going to have to get me an exercise mat, as we have wood floors.

Hi redwinelover... Before going to bed, I want to thank you again for telling me about something you enjoy so much. I really appreciate this fine gesture of yours.

ctlss- yeah, can you believe it!?? Thanks... Wood floors are better than ceramic tile, at least! What I used for a long time (until dear hubby bought me an exceptional gym flooring mat that's 4' x 6' and AWESOME to work out on) were those interlocking garage floor mats...they're 2'x 2' and 1/2" to 3/4" thick. They work pretty well. I got mine at Costco, a pack of 8 (I think) for about $11.00. A lot of the exercise mats are little thin ones they sell as yoga mats (I have NO idea what kind of surface those would help on) or too thick and soft (I have both, can you tell?) The really thick one is too soft for most of the moves, it would be fine for crunches or something, but nothing where you're moving around. I think the Slim in 6 is a great start if you've never exercised. She's very calming and encouraging and NOT in your face. Not like Jillian! :) But I think Jillian might get more effort out of most of us...simply afraid she'll come through the TV and start kicking some tail! Let me know how it goes.

Hi Info - You're more than welcome! Let me know how you REALLY feel after a week of Jillian :D And ahh, shucks...t'wasn't nuthin' :)
