You don't have to add sugar to bread for it to rise. It just takes a little longer to feed off the grains and it may have a denser texture. I do add sugar to my whole grain breads as it makes them lighter. If I am making a basic Italian or French bread no sugar is traditionally added. Store bought bread usually has lots of sugar, flavorings and some mysterious ingredient called dough conditioner. Most peanut butter has palm oil and sugar added to it. I like the ones with just peanuts and salt. You can also get unsalted. I don't eat a lot of salt so need to make sure I get some due to my sodium level will drop too low.
