good morning friends! so my experiment begins. i initially planned to cut back on fats but i decided to cut back on dairy as well. This morning i had ground beef and coleslaw. i measured 1 tbsp of coconut oil for dressing. i had a coffee substitute and measured 1 tbsp cream to add to it. So ........ I had a huuuge "eyes wide shut" moment. i have been over-portioning. aarrgh!!!! This could be the real source of of my stall. I have been eyeballing my fat and cream portions and measuring this morning made it clear that I was waaay over. What makes this worse? My calories have been understated as a result. I've been consuming way more than I thought. double arrrrrgh!!! I hate measuring what I eat and it was easy to stop doing that because I was convinced I had a good handle on the portions just using my eyes. It's clear I was wrong. So I have some discoveries to document:
1) you CAN have too much of a good thing! Although I have been eating on plan it's pretty clear now that my eyes and stomach have been conspiring against me. The jig is up! I am back to measuring for now since I can't trust the eyes. 2) Upping your fat in a low carb diet is not the magic bullet for weightloss! I increased my fat and expected the weight to melt off like butter - it didn't! The exact formula for me is still a work in progress. What I know for sure is that as part if this lowcarb journey we each need to ultimately figure out the right balance of food (fat, proteins and carbs), supplements (vitamins and minerals) and activity that will support optimum weightloss, health and wellness.

Stay tuned to see the results of the recent tweaks to my fat and dairy consumption!

I'm glad to know that it isn't just my eyes that are a little fuzzy! ;)

Amazing insight on your part....thanks for your honesty, will go far in your journey to a better lifestyle. And by the way, that's exactly why I weight and measure my foods, I use to do the same thing!! And if I let my guard down, I'll go back to the eye-balling my foods....and I just think I'd rather stay the course, and keep enjoying my smaller sizes.

I am so glad you figured out the formula you need. I too measure by the tablespoon and also I weigh my vegetables and meat. It is really not an inconveniece and keeps me on tract. Remember that frozen food weighs more than it does cooked and meat weighs less after cooking. It has been difficult keeping the carb-fat-protein in balance. If I eat too many carbs than I crave carbs and it becomes a vicious circle. At this time I am going with more protein, then fat, then carbs but I do not try to keep my carbs too low. I was on the low carb diet several years back, lost weight, but soon after started craving carbs. I am eating Paleo and have lost 40 pounds. I do not eat wheat (gluten intolerant) and finally stopped having stomach pains every day. Even though on Paleo you do not eat dairy I have added back yogurt and cheese. I too use coconut oil but I also use coconut sugar, raw honey and pure maple syrup. I do not use white table sugar but I do use raw sugar. Good luck...........

I think that you are doing great, Jenn! I know I should start measuring my Half n Half too. I say I put in 1 TBSP, but do I really? I measure everything else! Something those sprinkles of cheese I put over food are looking bigger than I thought. It's the dairy. Got to be. It's a science losing weight. Everything in moderation. I am trying to drink more water too along with more non-starchy veggies. Just have to keep trying to see what works for us. :)

Great insight. Glad you figured it out. I'm sure you're going to see a huge break in that stall very soon.

Medievalgoat: I am thinking of adopting a more "paleoish" form of eating myself. I got myself a paleo book to help me understand what is allowed. I think the key with eating low carb is to find a way that will work for you for your lifetime and not just as a weight loss mechanism. Mom: We will find that perfect balance - that is the most important part of this journey in order to sustain and maintain our health. Helewis: I am looking forward to breaking the stall. I had 1 Tablespoon of cream today and I may have another - it's a far cry from what I have been consuming (I estimate I was consuming 1/2 cup or more most days). I've reduced my coconut oil as well and increased my water. I feel the breakthrough coming up in the next few days if I keep it consistent :)
