I need to make a decision. Last year I ran my first half marathon in October. I'm not fast - but I did manage to run the entire distance. It's time to sign up again if I'm going to do it. I don't think I am in as good a place physically to do as well as I did last year. Do I sign up anyway - even if I think I won't do as well? I may not even make it to the end.

Are you running for you or to get your name in the paper? If you think you can do it physically, and want the sense of self satisfaction of competing, yes! Do it! In the early 80s, I once signed up for the Cleveland Marathon. I got there an hour early, parked my motorcycle on a side street about 250 yards into the course, and made sure I had a 6 pack on ice strapped to the back. The race started, I ran 250 yards, walked off the course, got onto my bike and followed the pack while sipping cold beer. Of course I was a DQ, but I can honestly say I ran in a marathon!! YOU can actually make it the whole way, so no matter where you place, hold your head up knowing that you did it! Go for it!
