Ive been guilty of this too. Just wondering, doesn't Fat Secret calculate how many calories for you?

It’s important to work out what works best for your body and your lifestyle. A healthy eating pattern is a lifestyle not just a temporary way to shed some kgs. Just stick with it Bruce. You are doing great.

Lushy_Alice, it does an unfathomably terrible job of it. In my case, I've been losing weight OK on 1600-1700cal per day. This app thinks I should be on 22600cal per day, which is ridiculous.

Hey Bruce, seems like our diet goals a pretty similar - roughly same age and starting weight. I've definitely made the same mistake of going too hard, too fast in earlier failed diets. Your metabolism crashes, your body seems to hang on to every calorie you eat and vehemently refuses to drop weight, and all the while you feel like arse. And when you finally give up on the failed attempt, you feel even worse - defeated. For what it's worth to you, here's what I've done to lose ~20kg since early August. In short, I started at 1800cal per day for two weeks, added 16:8 intermittent fasting, then soon after dropped down to 1700cal. When things started slowing down a few weeks ago, I changed to 1600cal and 23:1/OMAD (One meal a day). After failing so many CICO diets in the past, intermittent fasting has been the game changer for me. It means fewer meals, but larger, much more satisfying portions. It's also been great for diet sustainability, having very iron-clad rules that define when I can and can't eat, which has put a stop to the sneaky snacking/grazing that has fucked up so many diets in the past. I'll admit going from 16:8 to 23:1 has been a challenge, but it's working for me. I get one meal a day, and I get to eat whatever the fuck I want within 1600cal, which is good helping for one meal. Yesterday I had KFC, today it'll be Grill'd, and I'm losing weight - it's fucking awesome! I've also had so much more energy since starting IF. I swear, regardless of how this diet turns out, I'm going to stick with some form of IF for life for the energy boost alone. All that shit aside, the biggest challenge/change hasn't been the diet itself - it's been to convince myself that this is my last diet. I needed to identify why all my past diets had failed and take steps to prevent that shit from every happening again. And I used this app's journal to do it. I put "pen to paper" to force myself to really take stock of the ongoing war against my body to come up with a new strategy for victory. To paraphrase Sun Tzu, I needed to know my enemy and myself. I wish you all the luck in the world.

@TDX00 thank you for your input to the situation I'm in. I'm 3 weeks into this change but have lost over 20kg in the last 5 months after giving up alcohol. I'm going to go with 2000 calories for a week and see how that goes. @triehard thanks for your support it means a lot 🙂. @Lushy_Alice I've tried getting my RDI on this app but it keeps giving me a ridiculous amount that I don't see is possible. I'm on 2000 calories now but the app is suggesting that I go to 2800 calories 🤦‍♂️

On ya mate! I've been a pretty heavy drinker on and off since I was a lad, though I usually give it up when dieting because I love food more. Race ya - first one to lose 60kg wins! 😉

Sounds like a plan 🙂

TD and Bruce. I follow you both as I really admire your commitment. Booze is my biggest downfall. When I go without I’m fine, but if I have a couple of drinks after work I find the empty wrappers in the morning from late night munchies and I’m starving in the morning. I have 3 dry days a week now which is what has helped me lose weight and am gearing myself up for IF. I have no problems with 16:8 now but I think if I ate everything in one hit I’d vomit! Hmmm possible plan B…….

Bruce you have made this old ladies day after reading your profile, nothing wrong with living with your parents, and stuff those that judge, you are an inspiration, and I wish I could get my 37 year to be as positive as you are, he is about the same as you, but as yet isnt in the mind set to change things, I worry for his health and as I have just started my journey here, I am hoping I can inspire him a little..and love your profile pic

Doing good so far I would set my protein at my target weight in pounds, fat between 45-50g and rest are in carbs and then slowly reduce your carbs each week making note of the scale. I would weigh myself everyday it will give you a more accurate weight over the week

Thank you for your kind words @Flossyflu and @triehard. I've only started dieting 3 weeks ago after noticing that I have lost a fair bit of weight from quit drinking alcohol. I was becoming a person I didn't like when I was drinking and it took me 7 months to realise this but after having a look at myself and with a bit of a talk from my Dad I decided that I no longer needed alcohol in my life. I weighted 158kg when I saw my doctor a week after I gave up drinking. I was a little surprised but wasn't shocked on how much I weighted but I've always been a big guy. I wish you both well and happiness in this journey we're taking upon ourselves to a healthy lifestyle 🙂

Yip, no alcohol, no sugar and bread, no seed oils, you should drop fairly easy at first on 150+ weight. Check out CarnivoreMD .. dr. Paul Saladino YouTube .. changed my life
