Day 5... Loving the IF. It is really working for me! Nothing but water and a cup of coffee in the morning till noon. But a question for you all... I can't have caffeine for medical reasons so I only drink black decaf (what, black? I never ever thought I would break my sugary creamer addiction, but I am doing it!). So many of you speak of the benefits of drinking black coffee each morning. Is it the caffeine that is the benefit you are speaking of, or some other element in the coffee? Just curious. It's not like I can switch to caffeinated, but I just wanted to know. I love getting educated on this site. :)

I believe it is the caffeine component that assists weight loss...and I'm sure there is much more to it then that. However, since you were also looking for ways to increase your good fats, have you come across bullet coffee yet? Really, this is tasty! 1 T. coconut oil, 1 T. unsalted (grassfed butter) 1-2 C. hot coffee blend in a blender (stirring doesn't work as well. If you try this..let us know if you like it! Kind of different but it grows on you till addiction!

sounds delish Becca! But I'll have to try it in the afternoon or evening since I am sure it is way over 50 calories and would break my 16:8 fast. And since I drink only decaf anyway, it might be a nice evening snack!

I do IF (but only 14:10) and I drink decaf. Personally, I don't believe the caffeine is necessary but the warm drink is a good way to relax the stomach and any hunger pains. I would be hungrier with caffeine - just the way my body responds to it.

AS Becca P said, GOOGLE Bulletproof Coffee. The fats help the metabolism for me and keep me from feeling hungry.

I don't drink coffee because of any benefits...though there might be some for later years cognitive functions...I like the taste, the aroma, the social aspect of it....I drink it black because that is better for me than adding cream and/or sugar and I've grown to love the unadulterated taste (it took a while). I've never tried bullet proof coffee although I know lots of people that drink it and love it too. For sure coffee is a stimulant, if I'm driving long distances (which I do a lot) and am getting tired a quick cup picks me up and keeps me going...oh ya, coffee also got me through university a long time ago.

Glad the IF is working for you. I'm with Steven Lloyd on this. The smell alone puts me back drinking with my Dad at age 14. Cold mornings feeding cows, cutting firewood, or whatever. Physically and mentally addicted. Nothing happens in my house til coffee:thirty.

People think I'm crazy for drinking decaf...like what's the point? But I love the taste, smell, feel...and it tricks my body into thinking that it's REAL coffee and it helps to wake me up. LOL This whole 'black' thing is new to me, but I am getting used to it. It certainly helps the my two kiddos were both baristas at one point in their lives and taught me to enjoy a GOOD cup of coffee. Looking forward to trying the bulletproof thing fo sho!

Caffeine all the way, baby! Although I do drink decaf in the evenings sometimes if I'm cold.

Laura, I'm on week 2 of giving up my coconut oil in my morning coffee. Been hard as I LOVE it but wanted to see if it affected my IF all all. So far I'm hungry way earlier but not starving. Anxious to see how weigh in goes Friday.

Lol, As I read this journal I am sipping on a double sized Black Decaf coffee, with nothing in it. lol. Nothing wrong with decaf. I drink regular when I get up. But after 2pm I go decaf. I am very caffeine sensitive. 1 cup is ok. 2 cups makes my heart beat stupid. It comes from drinking a 20 oz. Columbian supreme every day for 6 years. Now I drink a single cup of regular SOME days. Not even every day.

all I know is that I need my BULLETPROOF coffee no doubt. funny how I have no care in the world for Coffeemate Hazelnut creamer after a week on my bulletproof coffee. I look forward to it every morning. 10 oz. coffee 1 Tbsp Kerrygold unsalted butter 1 Tbsp organic coconut oil

Laura, in the states coffee is our biggest source of antioxadants, as well the caffeine can give your metabolism a boost (but i know you're not drinking caffeine). I dont think the decaffeination process removes or affects the antioxidants. Drink away! :)

I have a pretty high tolerance for caffeine, it just doesn't do much unless I drink a lot. I like it more for its warmth, aroma and flavor. I've been drinking it black too, and it's weird how fast I adjusted to it! I never thought I'd enjoy it, but it's pretty good, especially the French vanilla! I'm usually not one for flavored coffee, but since I'm holding back on the cream in the mornings, I think I may try other flavors.

I've been drinking mine black for the last five months except for the last two days, don't ask... But I'm done w that. I like coffee black, one in the morning just bc. I think the smell wakes me up more than the caffeine. Last couple of days I've been drinking 5-6 cups again don't ask lol. Anyway, I normally do the one coffee in morning and about 4-5 green teas the rest of the day. I only drink water and sometimes unsweetened almond milk so I like the variety.
