Last night I made a not-very-low-carb mug cake and then vomited. The recipe called for 2 Tablespoons of Swerve, which I should have entered into FatSecret beforehand. The Swerve had 30 carbs it it! Anyway. At first it tasted good, but a few bites in it started to taste chemical. Of course, I finished it. Ten minutes later I was retching into a bucket. Felt much better after that.
Wish I had tested my BG!

yikes, sounds horrible. May I ask, what is Swerve?

Swerve is an artificial sweetener. I try to avoid artificial sweeteners, but I gave this one a try. From now on if I'm craving something sweet, I'd rather use honey or even sugar and just deal with the rise in blood glucose.

100% pure maple syrup is wonderful as a sweetener too! Is that tolerable for you?

Good suggestion! I'll have to give the maple syrup a try! I'll need to test my BG every 30 minutes for an hour or two to see how it affects me.

very interesting, I've wondered if maple syrup would affect blood glucose... I don't personally know anyone with diabetes though. It is a wonderful natural sweetener though. Artificial sweeteners make me sick as a dog, so I am always interested in natural alternatives.
