Good news: i don't need surgery. I will be going to a different dentist where the cleanings are a little more expensive, $108, but I don't have to spend thousands on surgery because it won't help me. He did find a little gingivitis and showed me how to brush properly. And suggested sonicare for a toothbrush with a pressure sensor. So I will look into that and see if Sonicare has any with sensitive heads.
