I am looking for advice....
I stay at about 1600 calories a day. I am creating a calorie deficit of over 500 everyday. I drink lots of water and try to get enough protein and fiber. I do not lose. I maybe lose 1 lb a month...if that. This is really stumping me. I read that a lot of you keep dropping a lot of weight. Does anyone have any thoughts?

My suggestion would be to increase your activity so that you are closer to a 1000 calorie deficit-- you could also drop your calories down to 1400-1500. The reason I suggest this is because everything is an estimate and it is easy to underestimate calories consumed and overestimate calories burned. This gives you more room for error, so that you can successfully lose 1-2 lbs/week. By staying with a 500 calorie deficit - that should be 1 lb/week, but since everything is estimated it sounds like that is not enough. Maybe add 20 minutes of exercise at the beginning of your day - or try HIIT exercises.

It sounds like you are not taking in enough calories. If you take in too little calories your body will think it is starving and conserve every calorie to take in. Try adding 200-300 calories a day to the 1600 you are taking in. Of course the right food, but see how that works!

I agree with both of these comments. Adding 20-30 extra minutes of exercise a day could make a difference. And vary the number of calories you eat a day. Try eating 1900 one day, and then switch back to your usual routine. Whenever I plateau, this seems to help me. Good luck!

Well, I'm gonna go against the grain here and say cut the calories down to 1500. As you lose weight, you need less calories to help you lose. You don't have much left to lose so you may need to be stricter with your intake. You could also try caloric cycling (1600, 1400, 1200, 1500). It works for many people. Not everyone loses better when they eat more. Some do. If your not losing on 1600, adding more calories might cause you to gain. You should play around with the calories to see what will work for you.

Thank you for all the input. I agree with the notion that the body will hold on to what it's got if it feels that there are not enough calories. But I also know my body...I gain so easily. I was already contemplating reducing my calories to 1500..because I am lighter and because I do estimate a lot with what I eat. More activity I think is probably key! And varying the calories once in a while might keep my body guessing too! You are all so helpful! Thank you. :)

I suggest that you cut some more calories atleast 200 more and add exercise. Be sure to snack healthy and frequently this will help you not go into starvation mode cause you wont feel hungry. it will work and if you go into a plateau change it up maybe add some calories or adjust your exercise.
