I know this might sound silly, but sometimes I forget how simple it is to lose weight.. but I'm not saying simple is easy. It really just is simple math. Calories in - Calories out = weight loss. For such a simple equation, it takes a lot of determination and focus to make calories out > calories in. A LOT of focus. However, I also realize that people take many different approaches to achieve the calories out > calories in balance. Some choose to eat carb free, some dairy free, some fat free. These choices help us figure out which way our body process calories in the most effecient way, ultimately to achieve a greater weight loss.

The reason I'm writing about this is 2 things. For starters, I've finally seriously put my mind back in the game and I WILL lose my last 12 pounds. It will happen. I've already lost 2.5 lbs in 7 days which is crazy. It dropped off so fast, which is why I'm saying I forgot how simple it is. All I had to do was reduce my calorie intake to a reasonable amount, and exercise a few times and BAM. The weight came right off.

The second reason I'm writing about this is because my boyfriend got into a discussion about what types of foods are best for weight loss, and it all started with me buying a pack of cheese sticks at the supermarket. After 22 years of living in my body, I know that my body instantly stores carbs as body fat if I am having a large influx of carbohydrates (UNLESS I am doing marathon training. Totally different story). Don't get me wrong, I loooooooove me some carbs (pasta, pizza, bagels are all my favorite). However, I also know that if I eat a significant amount of carbs for a few days consistently, I feel lethargic, crappy, and bloated. Which is why I bought the cheese sticks. 80 calories for one cheese stick, or 180 for a package of pretzels. In my mind, one cheese stick has less calories, more fat, more protein, less carbs, and it leaves me feeling fuller than a bag of pretzels. But, the discussion Dan and I got into was that the cheese stick was bad for me because it had 10% of my daily fat in one little stick. He belives that any fat intake automatically turns into body fat, when I completely disagree. Long story short, our 'discussion' ended in a draw because we're both too darn stubborn :)

EITHER WAY, I promise I'm back for good. Even after just these 7 days of eating healthier and fitting in a workout here and there, I feel unbelievably better. I don't feel bloated, lethargic, or lazy. I want to get up and do things and be outside. (I'm not going to lie, I think the fact that it's finally getting nicer out has a lot to do with it. Seasonal depression? probably). I talked to my dad last weekend, and he and my two brothers agreed to run a half marathon together towards the end of summer! Mom will chip in as the official photographer!. I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will be a fantastic experience, and it will give me more reason to hit the trails!

CHIN UP, everyone!! IT'S FINALLY ALMOST SPRING TIME!!!!
