I tell myself that I'll weigh in here once a week (say, Tuesday), but then I check my weight each morning, and if/when I see a loss, I think, "claim it!", so that I can see even the littlest bit of progress. So here I am, with a half pound (hey, that's two sticks of butter!) loss to record. I've actually been eating more calories this week - deliberately - and a little more fat, since my gallbladder seems to be doing better. I'm not at RDI, even with the increases, so this is not like the apple newtons incident.

I intend to stay with this general eating plan, but I've decided to play around with maintenance intermittently. Meaning, take a higher calorie week once in a while to eat some of the things I can't necessarily eat when I'm focused on losing. I think it's helping me get into a better mindset of these changes being lifelong.

Have a great day - let me know what you're working at, and how you're doing!

good for you, but please don't get discouraged when the scale goes up a bit....i notice daily fluctuations as much as 2 pounds. up down up down, but ultimately moving down if you are following your plan. GOOD LUCK! You sound like you have a good attitude!

I'm with you when it comes to "mindset" and changes being lifelong. If I felt like I couldn't ever really have donuts and movie popcorn etc.. I'd be discouraged and unhappy. I'm trying to make changes but not be unrealistic. I was here 5 years ago and lost 30 lbs and guess what, it's back. So I'm trying to make changes to get the weight down but then maintain without saying no to everything forever. I'm doing great so far.. I deleted all the previous stuff and came back in here after loosing 10 lbs in the past 2 months, so I'm on a steady slow/good roll.

I do see those fluctuations, Iulani, and I think they help me be less obsessed about the number. If I know my food for the previous day was on-plan with regard to what and how much, and then I see a 2lb gain, I know it's not reasonable to blame myself. Same with sudden, big losses, though! Thank you for your kinds words!

Welcome back, Laryl - I understand what you are saying too! I honestly think finding balance for maintenance is more challenging for me than dieting. Not that I don't have plenty of dieting left to do...but finding the balance with regard to intake and nutrients once I'm 'there' seems to be harder for me. Wishing you all the best!
