Its been a long summer at the bakery/ cafe. Long, Hot some days it was 108 here in the sierras, busy ...crazy crazy busy in fact, there were fire evacuations, a week of feeding fire crews, crowds of Yosemite visitors, a war on voles attacking the garden and a little peanut of a girl growing up so fast we can hardly believe it. This left little time for losing weight. I had good intentions but they got left in the flour and sugar dust of 3 am baking. I did manage to hang on to 143 lbs..just barely. It was actually a sea saw back and forth between 143 and 147 all summer. There were a few mad dashes around the block that I would like to call walks to try and maintain some kind of healthy routine. Sometime I could keep those sugar cravings in check but mostly not, its not easy to resist when my sleep deprived brain is taking cookies and bread out of the oven at 3 am and there is a glass of cold goats milk in the fridge to go with it, plus we have been making cheese all summer for the cafe, and I cant even imagine trying to resist cheese. So here I am again, cafe/ bakery closed for the season and back on that wagon. Feeling positive about things , still breastfeeding the peanut passed my 18 months goal and not sure if I'll ever lose this weight and get back to wearing something besides stretchy clothes but heres to doing it once again. Walking/ Jogging with the stroller and little sweet pea, cutting back on amount of food eaten every day meaning no 3 am fresh baked meals , getting real sleep again and staying away for the most part from my arch nemesis SUGAR. LIfe is good.

here i go again talking about sugar but it is because it is an issue in my eating habits. As someone who has always loved sugar too much i finally decided to tackle the problem head on as it not only is hindering me from losing weight but is negatively impacting my health. my teeth hair skin and energy all take a toll when sugar is consumed. so i have delved into reading a comprehensive Chinese medicine book to get to the root of the answers and grow from there. changing my thinking from carbs are bad to which carbs are not healthy is a huge help in understanding what to eat every day. sprouted grains are a great basis for a daily healthy eating regime. so i have started sprouting all my heirloom grains and rice to get more nutrients that are beneficial . also seeking out different sweet sources as the body does run on sweet and it is what grounds us to the earth. found date sugar and coconut palm sugar and the best of barley malt sugar. all contain nutrients and dont tax the body. added chia seeds for better digestion and omegas and my new favorite addition SPIRULINA and chlorella. super green foods. Spirulina contains as much protein as meat and amino acids as well as well as fighting cancer and degenerative diseases. so i have been making cookies from sprouted oat rice einkorn and quinoa flour. found out that not all oils are the same so started only using unrefined organic coconut and olive oils sparingly. the final part to this last months investigations into food with TCM is not eating past 7 PM allowing my body to digest properly and do other things during the night like heal rest and regeerate. its working i feel great have more energy and am already losing a few pounds. Knowledge is key.

Logging in for the first time in a while. I had to stop worrying about my weight and concentrate on raising my daughter and since breastfeeding was the most important thing I could do for a healthy start to her life, I have focused on eating enough calories to keep my milk supply up which means no dieting just sensible healthy eating of whole foods from the garden and everything made from scratch so there are no preservatives. She is now almost a year old and I have slowly lost a little of the weight simply by eating well for both of us and walking every day. Soon it will be time to start running again something I have missed and weaning so cutting back on a few calories. Since I've always enjoying tracking what I'm doing and analyzing the results I'm thankful to be back n this site. Cheers to all who are trying for a healthy path in life. It makes a difference.
