This is my first day with fatsecret.com. Maybe if I post my journal online, I will be more apt to stick with it.

It seems like I've been dieting my whole life and I am now 50, soon to be 51. When I was 28 I wanted to be sure to get the weight off before I turned 30. After all, once you hit 30, the weight is harder to take off. Back then, I weighed 160-170. (I wish I was that weight now). I went on a shake-drinking, meal-replacing diet. It tasted terrible, but I stuck with it and I went in every week, because I was accountable to someone. I did lose the weight and I looked good. But, somewhere in my mid-30s, the pounds started to come back on.

Again, I wanted to be sure that I took the weight off before I hit 40. After all, it's harder to lose after 40. I did one diet after another and I did lose weight, but I never made it a life-style change. So, during my 40s the weight came back on.

In my mid-40s, I did the 6-week body makeover. It was a really good program and there were a lot of things I learned and still follow (like reduce my sodium intake). I took weight off and looked good for a woman in her mid to late 40s. But, I really got tired of eating dry, bland food. So, the weight came on again.

Now, I'm 50 and weigh more than I've ever weighed. My body is changing, my metabolism is slower, and it's going to be harder. After all, it's harder to take it off after 50.

I don't want to repeat the same yo-yo diet pattern of the past, because I really don't want to be saying these same things when I turn 60.

I am doing Atkins this time around. I hope to hear from others on the Atkins plan. I could sure use the encouragement.

ugg, I just wrote you a whole comment and hit the wrong button and it disappeared, long story short I can relate!! gained 100 lbs in the last 5 years dieting! I did the 6week body makeover too, about a year ago and so since them was eating my fast carb, slow carb and protein together, now I realize how many carbs i was actually eating and why i gained and didnt lose Logging everything in your food jornal is a great help, for the first time in 5 years, the scale is moving downward. On the 6 week I lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks and stalled, and I was doing ellipital or walking 1 to 2 hours a day. Everything I tried, same results, 5 lbs, and stop, because the carbs were killing me. I did learn a lot, especially about eating regularly to keep metabolism up, and I do get hungry ever 3 hours or so, and eat as early as possible to break the fast. Keep in touch, we can buddy up and support each other, there is lots of good support here, also on the atkins site, there is a thread, "anyone new want to buddy up" I found the poeple there, some which are here also, always post and motivate and help each other, good luck
