This is the hardest part of the diet yet. After 7 months and almost 50 lbs. my body decides to stall big time. I noticed when I was doing my yoga yesterday that alot of my skin is flabby and hanging there, like on my arms and tummy. The dermatologist's assistant told me two weeks ago there is nothing that can be done about that and it will just stay like that forever. Hmmmm....

Anyway, I am adding more carbs and calories and continuing everything as I had in order to break the stall. I'm terribly worried about my metabolism slowing down. I really can't figure out how I can lose nothing whatever for over a month. I want to honor the body's wisdom and not fret. I also don't want to become obsessive and have an "eating disorder". Its not about how I look but just plain health that makes me do this. Its nice not to be considered fat anymore. I guess I feel I've reached a point where visually people see me as not obese. But my weight still shows severe overweight according to the charts. Sighss....

I fit into clothes fabulously and wear a size 10 jeans now, even though I'm still heavy. I really want to lose lots more but can't imagine what my body will be like then. Will this flab go away? Will the skin tighten at all? I'll never be able to afford plastic surgery. Just making ends meet now is almost impossible.

Stalls are really hard to work with! But I look at these plateaus as my body rebalancing to lose again. And it gives time for the skin to tighten up a bit. I don't agree with your "nothing can be done" person. It takes longer when we're older but it does tighten up more than one might think. At least that is my experience. Though not the old lady bat wing arms. LOL I'm afraid those are here to stay. Bwaa ha ha. Yay for fighting into clothes fabulously!

This is the Emergency Diet Alert System..... This is only a test..... You are being tested. Your body is probably just adjusting and you are experiencing a completely normal part of it. Hold steady. Continue doing what you know works and it WILL start moving again.

Silverweb, I could have written your journal today, as I'm experiencing some of the very same things at almost exactly the same place in my journey - it's so uncanny, it's almost creepy! I have not stalled, but have had a slowdown for the last 3 weeks. I've still managed to lose, but I've had to literally think about every morsel I'm eating. Talk about getting an eating disorder! Anyhoo...my "solution" to keep dropping, abeit even more slowly, has been to drop my net carbs, drop sugar alcohols and drop ReddiWip (with its added sugar). I'm still looking for that solution to get me back to where I don't have to be quite so cautious. Even somewhat increased exercise hasn't helped...maybe our bodies are doing what Keli said...maybe they're just adjusting to our almost-50-pound weight losses.

Thank you everyone for such encouraging comments, and for sharing! I do believe it is the body needing to readjust. I think there is a lot about weight loss that nobody knows for sure, like how the body can go through such radical changes. I mean, to be able to get so heavy to begin with is almost like a science fiction novel! Did you see Portia DiRossi all over the t.v. with her book about her weight issues? How can we get into such states! Its scary. I just want to be able to know I can spend the rest of my life sharing with other lovely folks like you. Relationships are what matters.

Hi Silver, I wanted to recommend something for you to consider regarding the loose-hanging skin. My friend Deb is a mature woman and had excess droopy skin around her neck. A co-worker humiliated her, trying to be funny, and commented, "Deb, whatchya got goin on there? Cock-a-doodle-doo?" She was crushed. That day she got ahold of Visibly Fit Body Lotion and used it consistently for one month. Weeks later, she approached Dave in the teacher's lounge... "Dave, check this out..." she raised her chin and "flaunted" her slender neck. He pushed her collar aside, dumfounded and asked, "Where's the scar?" He honestly thought she had plastic surgery. This stuff works - use anywhere on the body from the neck down to the feet. Another friend used it on one of her arms/bicept area for two weeks and then took a picture. One inch of the mass was gone, visibly different from the other arm which she did not use the lotion on. It also takes away unsightly spider veins and improves the overall look of the legs. It gives you a just-been-to-the-gym look. If you want to check out more info on this view my website: marykay.com/ewalls -- TimeWise Visibly Fit Body Lotion - anti-aging and firming for the BODY. It really works. 100% Guarantee that you'll love it, or your money back. Shipping is Free w/ me. I am a Director with Mary Kay - this is my full-time job.

Are you doing strength training? From what I've heard from others around this site who have lost large amounts of weight, that can go a long way in getting rid of flabbiness. I have also heard that even after reaching that magical maintenance phase, assuming the good habits that got you there stay in place, things continue to tighten up for up to a year or more afterward. I wouldn't be too alarmed yet if I were you, keep pluggin away like you are & that scale will get moving again. Keep up the great work!!!

I took a look at your diet calendar and saw that you aren't even consuming your RDI in calories a day. I stalled at 297 lbs and discovered the reason was my body was in starvation mode from not eating enough and hanging onto everything. I added about 1000 calories a day and started losing after an initial gain of 4 lbs. I've been losing since. I try and consume a minimum of my RDI a day which is 2000 calories now but the real calculation you should use is take the total calories you've burned after entering all your activities in the exercise tracker and subtracting 20-30% of that total from that total and you get the amount of calories you should be consuming... some days for me it is around 2600 calories a day and sometimes only 2200... it depends on how busy I am at work or whether I work out or not.

Oh, it's good to know I can look forward to my body toning up. I do some strength training, free weights sometimes but mostly my balance ball and yoga, which uses my own body weight for balance. Push ups with the ball and that sort of thing...I'll try the cream too. I'll try to up the calories. I have to admit its hard to do without also upping the carbs significantly. My family is trying to encourage me to eat more generally speaking, but of course, my 23 year old daughter thinks that means ice cream and pizza! I have to say no everyday. I eat a slice or two of apple and I'm adding nuts in. I really can't keep straight carbs low though. I follow net carbs but even they are going up.

I found the calculator at http://www.phlaunt.com/lowcarb/DietMakeupCalc.php to be really useful in figuring out how much I should be eating. My body wants about 1400 calories and people kept telling me to eat more. And my phlaunt number was like 1387 as the "losing" number. It helped me trust myself. Never did figure out how to change my FS RDI widget though.

Hey, Silver. Just wanted to tell you that LauPug is using something called protofood supplement, (her doc recommended it to help shrink the loose skin) and her measurements today were amazing. 3 inches in the belly alone. The full name is on her journal entry for today. As for being stalled, yeah, I get that also. I am trying to move to OL, and really hope that it doesn't cause me to stall out. hope you are doing well otherwise, and have a great weekend!
