I've managed to lose weight over my birthday and Christmas which are weeks apart. Going out several times to restaurants with family made me nervous to weigh myself (especially after stopping for gelato) but I always choose wise choices on the menu (nothing fried) and I find I never gain weight from eating out or takeaway.

That is wonderful. My aim over this holiday period has just been to maintain weight. So far it is working. If I eat a few nasty things during a celebration, I cut down for the following meal/s.
