I found out I have gained 100 lbs in the past 5 years. No, you didn't just read a typo. 100 POUNDS. I have tried so hard to lose weight in the past, but I only see the inches and the scale move up.
Several years ago I went on a near-starvation and hardcore exercise binge that lasted 6 months. I lost 107 lbs in 6 months, but I also landed in the hospital. I truly believe during that time I thought I was doing great, but I had in fact destroyed my metabolism. Now I feel like I gain weight much fast than the average person, and the fat cells I had shunk now work so desperately against me to fill back up to my starting point.
Now I am trying to focus on eating foods that nourish my body instead of foods that taste great for a moment then wreck my body.
Is it my overeating? Yes. Is it me eating foods high in fat and sugar? Yes. Is it my lack of willpower? Yes. Is it my laziness? Yes.Is it my metabolism? Maybe. I am frustrated to the point of tears.
Please understand I do not ask for pity. I only ask for encouragement from my fs friends to help me overcome whatever this is that is working so hard against me.

Congrats on recognizing the need to eat foods that actually nourish us! And while it's never fun, slow and steady really is the best. Besides, even if you didn't lose a pound, think about how much healthier you will be when eating whole foods and getting some exercise in. It's a lifestyle change, and that's never easy. Just try not to beat yourself up when you get off track

Offer yourself some reassurance that people do understand; in our frustration we make poor choices and have to live with the resulting consequences. You are aware of and willingly admit what you are doing to undermine your health. Wondering what does the food offer you, help you to cope with, that you can take some deep breaths and look at to address? We all have our reasons, and can learn to face them. Think that may be what you need encouragement to deal with. Your body is just your body, "you" are so much more. Trust you will put your energy where you need to each day, and it won't cover it all, as none of us are perfect. Take care of you. j

I feel your pain, Sugar. Dieting and restricting does hurt our metabolism. There are studies out there that prove it. In addition, our bodies are programmed to not lose weight. I don't give advice, but do encourage you to look into the metabolism piece a little more. Gary Heavin (Curves founder) talks about this a lot in his book. You might look into that a bit and see if it resonates with you. So many of us are fighting this same battle so know you are not alone.

In the same boat. Trying to eat what God intended to be food. Hard to do with all the junk that is out there. You can do this. Have faith

You don't have to sacrifice taste to lose weight. Depending on the food plan you follow, there are recipes out there that make eating healthy a treat.

Processed foods, junk foods, and convenience foods should be the first things you target, along with sugary beverages (and alcoholic beverages *cough*ImLaura*cough*). Losing weight isn't complicated, pick a diet plan and make a full commitment, cheating because it tastes good only hurts you.

As Philmck says, to pick a plan and commit to it -- you can make changes and adjustments later, but the important thing is to get started. And remember, you didn't put all the weight on at once and you won't lose it all at one time. Slow and steady, and recognize that you will encounter plateau's and even an occasional gain. Just keep at it, record all your food intake (VERY important!!!) and come here for support, encouragement, and perhaps an occasional kick to keep you going!!

I found that identifying my bad habits and trying to get rid of them one at a time worked for me. It was just too overwhelming to think about the new way of eating I wanted to eventually arrive at, but I could chink away at the old while building up new habits a bit at a time. Trying to replace an unhealthy eating habit with a healthier substitute can work. Even starting with something so simple as drinking water and more water will work wonders. Now, I don't even think about it--even when I go out to eat, I just ask for a glass for water rather than buying a soda. Little by little, you will get where you want to be. Good luck to you.
