I have three more dates and a farewell meeting with Shaun T and we're calling it quits for a while! Cool off the relationship and all...things a bit too intense to continue at that pace. Could even kill me if I let it continue! Translation: I'm on Day 58 of Insanity, then two more workouts and the final day (farewell meeting) is the Fit Test. I can't say I'm sorry I've tried this program... I think it's done an amazing bit of work to this old body! Muscle definition in just about every part of the body except the back of the thighs (too much fat storage there STILL) and the center and lower abs (same, I guess). But obliques? Oh my! nice ones :) Arms, good Lord, revels an old Jillian :) Okay...I'm exaggerating a bit... but for an "old gal", some nice muscles. So... almost NO weight loss... I'll check the chart. And muscle weighs more than fat, blah, blah I know...I know... But it's not as though I didn't already have a lot of muscle going before starting this program, but I think it helps give you that "cut" look. I will say, it definitely increased my appetite overall. Or, maybe I just got tired of not ever feeling satisfied? Regardless, I'm happy with my fitness level and muscle growth, still unhappy with the number on the scale and the residual fat.

I bookmarked an article I was reading last night - trying to figure out how "the math" could be THIS far off. According to my calories burned (not relying on FS for numbers, but the bodybugg, which supposedly is considered 'very' accurate) and calories recorded - I should have lost something like 8 lbs so far this month. I'm down about ONE pound. There were two days in the month I didn't even record, but have a really good estimation and though I burned more than I consumed, I left those out of the equation- considered them "a wash". So....WHY? At least I'm armed with some information and will take that with me when I get the order for the next set of blood work. There's an answer to this, I know it. And yes, I HAVE lost close to 40 pounds this year - I'm not blowing that off, I'm not NOT appreciating that. What I AM concerned with is how little I'd have to eat on an ongoing basis to maintain this, if things don't change. I can't imagine spending the rest of my life eating 1500 calories a day while working out hard for an hour a day. One of the things I need tested is reverse T-3. There was a patient, a woman who'd had gastric bypass surgery and had cut her calories down to 800 a day, trying to lose weight. She was still gaining. They didn't believe her (of course) and admitted her to the hospital and monitored her intake. They tested and insisted the thyroid was fine, as she had normal TSH, T4 and T3 levels. But then they checked her Reverse T3 and found it was really hight and that her leptin was high, as well. So they checked her metabolic rate and it was 45% BELOW normal. So dieting, alone, would never work with such a patient.

Hmmm... what does this me for ME? Just something to check out. I KNOW I'm pretty good at recording food and amounts of food and I DO believe the bodybugg is fairly accurate... and yet the scale does NOT reflect what the numbers suggest. So SOMETHING isn't working properly. Now...the difficult part will be getting the endo to work with me on this. Simply because since I HAVE lost this much weight, she will probably not easily accept that I know how to count calories and that I should have lost much more weight than now, going by my efforts. She, like many people, will probably question either my intake or my burn. So I'll have to try to convince her of my efforts and convey my fear that if it's THIS difficult to lose a pound... how difficult will it be to maintain this weight loss... how long can a person with a "normal, healthy appetite" follow a 1500 calorie a day "diet" and not feel deprived in the long run? THAT'S my fear. Not how damn long it's taking to get there...I'm almost resigned to THAT one...it's the staying there once I reach my goal.

Hi RWL, thanks for stopping by. Yea, we love Christmas too. In Florida it is not the same "outside", but inside its CHRISTMAS. We always get live trees, not artificial. Looking very forward this year with the addition of grandchild #3. I will definitely send you any recipe you want. Trying the Rum Chicken tonight so will see how it is first. I love that new recipe software. I would probably lose weight rather nicely if I would just KEEP THE CALORIES DOWN. I have this awful problem at night with snacking. Thought it was under control, and was for a while, but it sure came back fast. Got to work on this, seriously. It's bad news to me. Got our computers up and running good again. Laptop had issues that got fixed and we have a new DSL installed that is now up and running. Printing was also an issue, but is working good again. What a pain in the katootie. Have a good Sunday and I will post how the chicken turned out. If it was good, remind me (getting old) and I will most definitely send to you. Enjoy the day!

I am in the same boat as you, I am getting cut, but I have to admit I do have a vice and that is red wine/beer, so I guess that might be the reason why I am not losing pounds. Do you take readings on inches, I don't I can really feel the difference in clothes and I tend to get obsessed with numbers but maybe you are losing inches.

RWL, you are doing so awesome, but I can sure understand your frustration!! It is so hard when you work so diligently and nothing happens. I am quite sure that you are losing inches. I feel your pain and I hope that the endo has some answers for you! Perhaps it is the Reverse T3. As for convincing her that you are exercising and eating what you should show her FS diaries!! If she still doesn't believe you, challenge her to a Shawn T showdown!! lol Regardless of the numbers, you are looking good, feeling great, and the number really isn't important. And as Klannoye said, I, too, am thinking about the muscle thing.....blah, blah, blah!

WARNING, THIS IMPORTED RECIPE WILL BE A MESS. Rum Glazed Whole Chicken DELICIOUS! Wonderful way to make a roast chicken. We loved it. Ingredients10 servings (5 1/2# with bone in) chicken fryer (figured with dark meat, white meat is less calories & fat). 1/2 serving ground cinnamon 4 servings (1 tsp) morton light salt 3 servings (3 tsp) minced garlic 4 servings (1/4 cup) clover honey 24 servings (1/4 cup packed) splenda brown sugar blend 3 servings (3 tbsp) cider vinegar 1/2 serving (1/2 cup) college inn light & fat free chicken broth 2 fl oz dark rum 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp ground black pepper 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 2 tsps wesson canola oil 53 1/2 g (2 medium) sweet vadalia onions, thinly sliced Directions: 1. Used a 5 1/2 lb chicken for this recipe. Probably could serve 10 people @ 3 oz servings. White meat is less calories & fat than dark meat. This recipe is figured with dark meat so is not entirely accurate. Also put servings at 8 instead of 10. 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Rinse chicken with cold water and pat dry. In a small bowl, stir together the cloves, cinnamon, salt and both peppers. Rub spice mixture all over the outside and inside of chicken. Tie legs of chicken together with twine. Set aside. 3. In a large skillet, warm the oil over a medium heat. Stir in sliced onion and minced garlic; cook until onions are soft, about 8-10 minutes. Put onion/garlic mixture in a glass baking dish that will fit the chicken snuggly. Spray with Pam olive oil first. Set the chicken on top of the onions. 4. In a small bowl, stir together the honey, brown sugar, rum, and vinegar to make the glaze. Drizzle half the glaze over the chicken. Pour chicken broth over the onions. Bake chicken uncovered for 45 minutes. Drizzle the remaining glaze over the chicken and bake for 45 minutes more. Then baste the chicken with pan juices and bake 30 more minutes, or until done. Let rest for 10 minutes before carving. 5. To serve, spoon an appropriate serving (make sure there is enough for 8 servings) of onion/garlic mixture over a serving of chicken. 6. A serving is 3 oz of meat only. Dark meat is figured in recipe, white meat will be much less. 1, 3-oz serving is 352 calories, 21.17g fat, 243mg sodium, 15.64g carbs, 0.2g fiber, 21.39g protein. I am sure this will import badly as I sent it to others and it looked awful, why can't I paragraph this stuff when I write? Ideas? Let me know if you can't figure it out. Gheeesh!

I looked back at it and it IS a royal mess. How do you paragraph? Let me know, I have tried and tried.

RWL I hope the doctor can help you..hitting the weightloss "wall" is frustrating! You will get there and in the mean time, look where you are now compared to before. You've done an awesome job, and you didn't cave under Shaun's pressure lol! You will make it!

NextNumber...WOW...that looks GOOD! I will definitely have to try that one. I'll probably wait until it's no longer 100 degrees outside so I don't have the oven going for 2 hrs. Well, depends, that recipe sounds awfully good! Maybe we'll get a day soon when it at least COOLS off at night! Two questions - what is 1/2 serving of cinnamon? And just to clarify, the calories listed are for 8 servings, not 10? I realize it may be lower than stated due to differences in white and dark meat, but just want to know if I'm really supposed to be able to get that many servings from one chicken (damn us and our American view of a serving - ten sounds almost ridiculously high to me :) Thanks for doing all that here, I know that's a lot of typing! At least this way, others reading my journal will also get the opportunity to try it :) As for paragraphs? If anyone knows, let US know! I can make paragraphs in my journal entries - just not any comments. When it's really important to separate, I'll doing something like =============================== it works :D Thanks again!

Well, Klannoye... you SAW a picture of my "guns" ... well, "a gun" (remember Wayne's World??) and yeah... a BIT impressive, given my "advanced age" :D STILL... ya KNOW I didn't lose 8 pounds of fat and put ON 7 pounds of MUSCLE...that's next to impossible. Especially in a month. But, nice try! :D

Hi Hotagain... Yes, I DO love my red wine...but when I have some, I always add in the calories, so it doesn't make sense that simply having a glass (or three...or whatever) would keep you from losing weight as long as your overall calories are less than you are expending. I'm stumped here. I've lost a bit in inches over the last 60 days (!), but nothing like you'd think doing this program. But it IS a more overall body shaping difference. I don't remember what size I was two months ago, either. I know... I DO have to be patient. Really though, my BIGGEST concern is going forward. Not so much how LONG it may take to get there, but HOW in the WORLD am I gonna keep the weight off??? Will I REALLY need to eat less than 1500 calories a day FOREVER? THAT'S my biggest concern... I just want a "normal" metabolism, one where I could reasonably expect to eat 1800 - 2000 calories a day, as long as I remain active, and not get fat. And Lord knows...I don't want to give up WINE! :D That would be like life without the possibility of sunshine! lol...

Hi ctlss... I actually went in to see her the first time armed with my stuff from both Bodybugg site AND Fat Secret. She didn't seem to either have the time nor the inclination. Just listened really quick, offered blood work and that was it. Really hard to find a good doc sometimes, and finding an endo that will treat with numbers considered "normal" by many doctors is difficult enough. BUT... when I DO go in there, I'm gonna MAKE her listen! :D And have plenty of back up. And that cracked me up - challenge her to a Shaun T showdown! lol!!! As for muscle weight... please see my comment to klannoye... NICE try you two... are you in cahoots with one another?? :D
27 set 10 da utente: redwinelover
Hi Youngbug... thanks... and no, haven't caved. I've decided I'm the most STUBBORN woman on the face of the earth! This is ONE time when that's served me well :) he he he...
27 set 10 da utente: redwinelover
Klannoye and I...in cahoots??? Why whatever would give you that idea?? lol And yes make her listen. YOU know your body better than anyone else and if you are convinced that things aren't going the way that they should, then the doc needs to respect that and check out what you think the cause is. If it turns out that you are wrong, then you are wrong...what has she got to lose by finding out? And I understand waht you mean about a good doctor. They are always in too big a hurry (overbooked) to really listen. And if she won't listen, threaten her with your "guns"!! lol

Good, because I officially say you can't disappear from here. We need you. And we all have to do our part, right?

Hey RWL, sorry about that. I corrected my own recipe too. This damn FS recipe system does not allow the measurement to go in the way you want. I have to edit almost everything as who knows what a serving is. They should have it go in the way we type it. It's crazy. Ever try to enter a recipe? Frustrating. Anyway, it's 1/2 tsp cinnamon. I used a 5 1/2 lb chicken and if you only ate a 3 oz serving (like the label states) it would serve 10. BUT, pig that I am, we eat 4 or 5 oz, so I made it as a serving for 8. But 8-10 is a good judge. RWL, that glaze was awesome. My husband said we need to try it on pork chops or a pork roast. AND, it came out so pretty. It was hard not to over-eat it. We both had to push it away. Good luck with it. Let me know if you have any questions. By the way, how can I achieve paragraphs on this site. I never can get them.
27 set 10 da utente: The Next Number
I forgot to say....don't forget this was a 5 1/2 lb chicken. There is a lot of meat on a chicken that big. But it always depends on how much you eat. 3 oz as they say OR 4-5 oz like I eat. 8-10 servings is the best I could give you. Some eat more, some less. Enjoy

Hard to believe you and Shaun T. are calling it quits. I couldn't have done it for a day...So sorry you are struggling so over the calories issue. I don't know who to suggest you talk to about this but I have had several people tell me that sometimes people need to eat more calories to lose more. Maybe kmartin could explain this - she is my diet coach.
