The heat a humidity is making me hyper-aware of the new folds and crevices created by my loose skin. I know my profile says 30 pounds lost, but I lost nearly 50 before I joined. I’ve always been pretty adamant about NOT having any elective surgeries for the sake of vanity, but I’m starting to consider that it might actually affect my quality of life. What do y’all think? Have any of you actually done it?

I haven't, but I know people who have after a large loss. It dramatically improved their quality of life. The extra skin can pull and strain causing pain. Plus, I know one person that had to get the pan of skin removed from their stomach because it was causing infections for various reasons. If the extra skin is causing you pain and discomfort, then it's not vanity but quality of life.

I can see the need. I have not done it as I still have a lot to lose. I have a lot of hanging skin and it does cause problems.

I know people who had weight loss surgery and did do it. They’re happy. I say do what you feel comfortable doing and prayers for a happy outcome.

There is an argument to be made that an a medical level it can be dangerous and for your own safety it is worthwhile. At the end of the day the choices you take that affect your body is yours and you shouldn’t take other people’s opinions unless those people are very close like parents spouses and children.

By take I meant care about what other people think about you. So if Becky from work scrunches her nose who cares but if your husband or life long freind care then that is worthwhile and should be taken under condsideration.

It depends... if you are done losing weight then if it would make you feel better in your body then by all means do it. But if you’re still wanting to lose more wait till you are satisfied with your weight

We’re all a little vain in that we all care how we look, and there’s nothing wrong with that. On top of that you may feel uncomfortable and maybe the surgery makes you literally more comfortable in your skin. I say don’t rule it out just to follow a principle. If it makes sense for you and your experience of this one life we get 🙂 will be made better, it could be worth considering.

I’m definitely not ready now because I’m not done losing weight. I just see how my skin flap I’ve already accumulated collects sweat and dead skin and gets rashy underneath if I’m not careful, and I know it’s going to get worse. I can hide it with shape wear, but it’s so damn hot! I also feel like if I did something so drastic as surgery, it would keep me from gaining the weight back. In addition to helping me feel better, the skin can be donated to burn victims, and there’s a hospital specializing in that where I live.
