Yesterday I threw the diet to the wind. It was my birthday, and my tradition since I was 14 is a big dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant. Nothing comes between me and my Kitffo on my birthday! So 5 friends and I went out and ordered a big platter of all my favourite dishes, then promptly pigged out. Afterwards, we went to our board games pub at which I ordered a brownie and a pint of beer for dessert.

I probably consumed more calories last night than I have in the last two weeks combined! And it was worth every single one of them. And every minute of the next week as I work them back off. If I thought I would forever be denied nights of gluttonous excess, I would never be able to stick to moderation the rest of the time. For me, this journey is as much learning about spacing those moments out to appropriate intervals as it is about the moderation the rest of the time.

Also, it was very strange to me to look down at the plate and realize that the brownie I had been dreaming of and planning for for 2 weeks was only half eaten, but that I was finished with it. I didn't want another bite of it. Same with the beer, after drinking half the pint, I was ready to just leave the rest and go home. It's not just my brain learning moderation, my body is adjusting to it, as well.

I'm not weighing in this morning, I'm horribly dehydrated, and bloated. I'm going to drink all my water today, and assess the actual damage tomorrow.
