Not too bad as I'm concentrating on keeping my blood sugar under control rather than worrying about my weight. I've lifted my exercise level and am trying to maintain one hour and twenty minutes a day with a well elavated heart rate. I have a Concept 3 rower in my lounge room which is handy for cardio and I can watch documentaries on tv at the same time. The other strand of my exercise plan is playing my drums with intensity, which burns a lot of calories fast, assuming my Fitbit is reasonably accurate in its calculations.

I studied music at Uni and was assured that we burn calories on the same level as an athlete when going sick. My Garmin counts Conducting bands as steps....I'll take it 😝

Spicehorn, I've noticed the same sort of thing: it seems the Fitbit counts each movement of my left wrist as a step. Given that I'm struggling to play along with some fast Afro-Cuban jazz at the moment, the step count rises dramatically. I also suspect that rapid wrist movements throw out the heart rate function of the Fitbit. I'm 72, which gives me a theoretical maximum heart rate of 148bpm (using the old 220 minus your age formula.) The Fitbit reckons I hit 175bpm while drumming hard. Given that I'm breathing heavily, but would be still able to talk, suggests I'm nowhere near my max heart rate.

Taiko drumming would get your heart rate up there! I get pretty active when I conduct...I guess throwing in some extra moves while drumming would get your heart pumping 😂

Taiko is indeed very energetic, I don't of anywhere around Canberra where you can do it. I'm confined to my house anyway as my immune system is still badly damaged, from the scary amounts of cancer chemo I've had.

I used to pop a Taiko YouTube vid on, hook my feet under a table and drum while doing sit-ups 😂 All the best for your continued recovery, and we'll done for still drumming after all of that 🙂
