Intermittent fasting. What are your thoughts? In your opinion is it beneficial? If you intermittent fast what is your method? Someone I know told me they literally eat only candy for breakfast and then that they "intermittent fast" for the rest of the day. I was horrified. They told me they get all their calories from sugar. I said, "Please don't do that. That's not healthy. And I don't think that's what intermittent fasting is."
Someone else advised me to intermittent fast for "a whole day once every month, at least" to "reset your metabolism."
However a nutritionist I know advised against fasting because she believes it teaches you to ignore when your body needs food. Frankly, my body needs to learn the difference between when it needs food, when it likes the way something tastes, when it's thirsty, and when it's just bored.

I fast mainly because I enjoy it. I mostly do 5:2 but have been researching longer periods but I haven’t decided if I trust the “science” behind it. I don’t use fasting to eat anything I want when I do eat. I avoid processed foods and refined sugar as much as I possibly can. At this point if I eat 1800 calories I feel beyond stuffed. With the lower calorie intake I concentrate on the quality of the food to make sure I am giving my body what it needs. I have a lot left to learn but like what I have been doing so far.

I told my doctor I did intermittent fasting. He said people who fast regularly fast live longer. I "try" to have an 8 hour eating window and 16 hours where I allow beverages. Not a true fast if I drink something beside water. Usually I only have 2 meals a day. Eat from 5-6am and stopping eating aroun1pm. I get up really early

I started IF 18x5 back in July. I’m over 50 and nothing else would make the scale move. I also avoid processed foods. My husband and I are both more sedentary than not, we exercise moderately but we’re desk workers. Some days it can be hard to make it through the 18 hours, but with tea, water, and black coffee I can get there! My husband has been joining me since August. He has lost more than 15 pounds while I’ve only lost 6 but it has other benefits such as more energy and better focus. I use the Zero app to track.

Intermittent Fasting is just the new term for skipping a meal(s). Supposedly it prevents you from consuming an extra chunk of calories that you would have normally ingested. For some it works, for others it just encourages binge eating later in the day as they race the clock to eat as much as they can. For diabetics it's not such a great idea as their blood sugar levels can dip. None of IF will help if the problem is a pantry full of snack food and until an activity is found to replace eating when bored. I would start with the family discussion about what foods are nutritious for everyone and turning over a new leaf on what to buy at the grocery store.
